UNFORTUNATELY with these wonderful emails comes the: “If you don’t send this to 5 people in 20 secs you’ll die in 2 days” emails… really people, how can u believe them? even worse.. how can u actually send them?!

I got this email, I gotta love the guy/girl who wrote it! and I believe it is the forward of all forwards.. Please take your time in reading it:

Geek on!

So I’ve been wanting to talk about this for a long time now,  they’re three simple words actually, dedicated to three letters ….  I hate STC

So apparently my favorite router “Linksys” isn’t “compatible” with STC’s netwroking, so I had to switch to“Afaqshamel” that was STC’s official router… if you’re thinking “ahh I heard that before..” it’s probably your router, your gate to the wonderful world of internet…

Anyway… As usual,  I was having trouble surfing the web.. so you know, with all my online meetings and top secret/extremely important emails, I couldn’t handle this “malfunction”…

So I call 907, my favorite number.. to fix this problem..I shut up my annoying cousins running around next to me, and I start listening to the most luring voice… a machine!  I press a couple of numbers, feeling like I’m as important as an ant… listening to how they are just keeping me waiting for 10 minutes to prove that I’m an important customer.

So I call.. wait to be connected to the lucky guy that’s gonna fix my problem with a simple “refresh” button if you might say on his system.. I wait and wait and wait…….. and wait …until this dude picks up. His phone was not working.. the conversation went like:

Sara: alooo???

STC: …………..

Sara: aloooooo?

STC: al… wha…cant…

and this goes on for 3 mins… (Yes I’m calculating the minutes wasted, so that when I grow up all old and wrinkly I’d look back at my life and how I spent half of it waiting on hold)..

Anyways instead of doing the proper thing (transferring me to another guy) he just closed the phone!

In the middle of an anger rage I redialed those favorite numbers of mine.. and waited almost 7 mins! and then something happened, something unbelievable!!! the internet WORKED! I got so excited and was like “aww the guy fixed the internet problem without even listening to me complaining :’) that’s so sweet of him”! so I close the phone, open the one and only .. facebook.. wait for it to load,, and then BAM! the internet stopped working  AGAIN!!  It’s like it was playing a prank on me!!!

Frustrated, I call again… wait ANOTHER 10 mins! and then get connected… I told the guy the problem, I answered all the normal questions they asked without waiting for him to ask, I even told him what to do… a simple: “my internet isn’t working, it hasn’t been working for about an hour (which happens every couple of days), I refreshed it, I closed and opened the router, the problem is from the network not my laptop, just press that little refresh thingy and I’ll be on my way ” … I couldn’t bare hearing him criticizing my beloved computer! or saying hurtful things about how it’s not working or not catching the internet signal… so without hesitation he did his little thing and it worked!

Fact: a guy was using his Blackberry abroad, he got a 800,000 riyals bill from STC and got imprisoned for not being able to pay it… 2-5 Saudi Arabian riyals! For an international bbm msg! what the hell?! Yes I know, you’re all like” :O I did NOT know that!”.. well my friends STC don’t lie, they just sneak their way into your pockets using awesome adds and extraordinary offers (which are fake)… And make false promises, then they just break ur heart…

I’m glad I got that off my chest, I’m thinking about converting to “mobily”, hopefully better offers, and less trouble.. Do u think I should? please tell me, I’m still in the middle of hunting for a better telecom company, it’s probably mobily, we’ll see..

Anyhow,,  after a frustrating topic like that, enjoy some of my favorite computer tech scenes :

Scene 1 :

Helpdesk: Double click on “My Computer”

User: I can’t see your computer.

Helpdesk: No, double click on “My Computer” on your computer.

User: Huh?

Helpdesk: There is an icon on your computer labeled “My Computer”. Double click on it.

User: What’s your computer doing on mine?

Scene 2:

Tech Support: “Ok, we’re going to check your modem settings. First thing we need to do is make sure all programs are closed.”

Customer: “How do I know if everything is closed?”

Me: “Make sure all windows are closed.”

Customer: “But…I’m in the basement. I don’t have any windows here.”

Scene 3: (sometimes the Tech support r the “smart” ones)

Customer: “My laptop won’t boot.”

Tech Support: “Have you tried rebooting?”

Customer: “I can’t reboot, because it doesn’t boot in the first place.”

Tech Support: “Sir, we have to do things my way, okay?”

“Better to be a geek than an idiot.”

Geek On!

* Before I begin I would like to say that some people can have characteristics of more than one type… that’s why I consider every person to be unique in his/her own way!.. I am not stereotyping, I am merely giving names to people with specific qualities that qualify them to be called that! *

Ok so It’s really simple actually… It’s mostly like specification of weird actions..

Geek: A person that has an interest in a subject that not a lot of people do (in my case technology), has no major troubles socializing…

Nerd: A person that is interested in almost every subject, mostly a book worm and likes to study a lot. He usually is not that social, his interests make him too different than others to merge in..

Dork: 3 words… foolish, stupid and clumbsy.

So you see.. I told you , they are different! Now, everything is much clearer with examples! so here you go…

1- Computer’s rights!.. Yes, they DO have rights!

2- Talk about some “Social habits” that involve electronics/computers here in Saudi…

3- Any updates that involve technology, computers, social development, social un-development and anything that’s interesting I guess!…

4- Not everything geeky has to do with computers you know… You might just have a geek there in ya , you’ll see what I’m talking about!
